Our hand-built mud cottages to our authentic tribal cuisine, everything is thoughtfully crafted to honor the environment and preserve the region's rich cultural heritage. Beyond safaris, the experience invites you to engage more deeply with the region through village visits, basket weaving, rice pounding, farming activities, riverside picnics and evenings under star-filled skies.

Meet your Localdost - Pratyusha Priyanka
At 17, Pratyusha Priyanka worked at Dehradun Zoo, an experience that ignited a lifelong passion for wildlife conservation. That spark never dimmed. Over the years, she immersed herself in wildlife research across Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, studying human-elephant conflict, wildlife movement patterns, and community engagement. In Bandhavgarh, she conducted extensive field research documenting elephant migration and understanding how local communities are impacted by human-wildlife interaction. She has collaborated with India's leading wildlife organizations including Wildlife SOS, Wildlife Trust of India, the Wildlife Institute of India, and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau. Her formal education at Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya and later studies in photography shaped her approach to conservation storytelling. All of this converged into the creation of this beautiful earthy resort, a space where conservation, sustainability and authentic hospitality are woven together. Here, guests become part of protecting nature rather than simply witnessing it.

Supports Local Communities & Cultures
Deeply rooted in its locale, the property champions the prosperity and vibrant culture of its surrounding community. Over 80% of our dedicated team hails from nearby villages, fostering local employment and shared growth. We proudly source more than 80% of our food, crafts, and services from local producers and artisans, ensuring a thriving regional economy. Beyond commerce, we engage in meaningful, ongoing partnerships with local artisans and knowledge keepers, honouring traditional wisdom. Guests are invited to partake in authentic cultural experiences, from guided walks to storytelling, all thoughtfully led by community members, deepening connections and offering direct benefit. We prioritize local hiring and offer occasional support to community initiatives, understanding that true hospitality extends beyond our gates. Our menu is a living celebration of place, with over half our dishes featuring local and indigenous Jharkhand recipes.
Green Environment & Biodiversity Conservation
Our resort is a testament to biophilic design, gracefully blending into the natural terrain and ancient trees that define our landscape. Our property boasts a dense native tree canopy, providing a vital habitat and a designated corridor for local wildlife – a living sanctuary. The architecture itself, crafted from local mud and other natural materials, inherently minimizes our footprint and harmonizes with the environment. To preserve the pristine quality of our surroundings and ensure an intimate guest experience, we thoughtfully limit the number of guests through a formal carrying capacity. We cultivate much of our own produce in our organic gardens, reducing transportation impact and nurturing the soil. Our commitment to low-impact living means diligently avoiding plastic and carefully stewarding our natural resources.
Air & Water Quality
In our kitchens, we uphold clean cooking practices, utilizing 100% LPG, electric, or biogas for daily meals, ensuring pristine air quality. Occasional outdoor 'chula' use is mindfully managed, enriching the cultural experience without compromising air purity. Understanding the preciousness of water, we approach its use with utmost care. While our water is sourced from borewells and tankers, we are committed to mindful consumption in every aspect of our operations, recognizing it as a vital, shared resource. Our naturally cool mud houses reduce the need for excessive air conditioning, inherently contributing to better air quality and energy efficiency.
Waste Management
We operate with a robust philosophy of waste reduction and mindful disposal. We practice comprehensive waste segregation at the source, meticulously separating organic, dry, and recyclable materials. All organic waste, including food scraps and garden trimmings, is thoughtfully composted on-site or channeled into our biogas system, returning precious nutrients to the earth. Our dedication to minimizing environmental impact extends to a strong focus on avoiding single-use plastics throughout the property, reflecting our commitment to a cleaner planet.
Temperature & Energy Management
Our commitment to sustainable operations is reflected in our energy choices and infrastructure. A significant portion of our property, between 30% and 70%, is powered by energy-efficient equipment, including LED lighting and inverter appliances. We diligently monitor our energy use, actively striving to minimize electricity consumption through thoughtful planning and the integration of efficient appliances. Further strengthening our renewable commitment, between 25% and 50% of Sakhua Stays' total energy is derived from clean, renewable sources. Our vernacular mud house architecture provides natural insulation, significantly reducing the need for artificial cooling and heating, embodying passive energy design.
Travel & Transportation
Nestled in a serene and remote locale, our stay offers a true escape into nature, a journey that begins with a private arrival. While reaching us often involves private transport, this allows for an undisturbed immersion into the tranquil surroundings upon arrival. Our focus is on the profound experience once guests are here, encouraging slow travel within the property's embrace, fostering a deeper connection to the immediate environment. Though our location is remote, it provides a unique opportunity for guests to disconnect and fully experience the pristine natural beauty, away from the usual thoroughfares.
Food & Guest Experience
At our property, every guest experience is crafted to be an authentic journey of connection and discovery. Our culinary offerings are a vibrant tapestry of local and regional Jharkhand cuisine, with over half our menu celebrating indigenous recipes, inviting guests to savour the true flavours of the land. We provide a rich array of cultural experiences, from traditional cooking workshops to artisan craft demonstrations, all designed to immerse guests in the local heritage. Paid experiences, such as guided walks and storytelling sessions, are led by local community members, fostering genuine interactions and sharing local history. The intentional design of our traditional mud houses, coupled with a formal carrying capacity, ensures an intimate, unhurried atmosphere, allowing guests to truly slow down and connect with the place and its people. Our ethos of simplicity and low-impact living encourages a more grounded and meaningful engagement with the destination.
Education on Sustainable Living
Our stay embodies a philosophy of certified sustainable living, a heartfelt commitment to being real and low-impact. Our very architecture reflects this, with mud houses built using local materials, providing natural coolness and minimizing the need for artificial interventions. We nurture a deep connection to our food, with much of it harvested directly from our own organic garden. What we don't grow, we thoughtfully source from our neighbouring farmers, fostering a truly farm-to-table experience. The culinary journey extends to a profound appreciation for local Jharkhand dishes, anchoring the entire stay in the region's rich cultural tapestry. Our commitment permeates daily operations; meticulously avoiding plastic, diligently conserving water, and consciously choosing simplicity over excess. This is not merely a stay; it is an invitation to slow down, to breathe deeply, and to genuinely experience the essence of this unique place. It is a living testament to working in harmony with the local community, ensuring that the benefits of your visit resonate far beyond our property, weaving a rich tapestry of mutual respect and shared prosperity.
